Falling in Love with a Good Book

Most of you know I had outpatient surgery yesterday. Needless to say, because of the drugs and sleeping afterwords, I didn't get any of my Bible in 90 Days reading accomplished. So today I played catch up.

I just finished reading Genesis chapter 40. So in a few days, I have read 40 chapters. I've never been able to do this before. But for some reason, it's easier this time. I've read a lot of tips on the Mom's Toolbox site and during our Twitter party Monday night, someone gave what I think is the best tip of all... Read the Bible like a story.

The Bible is a story, a true story written by God. It is perfect and error free. 2 Peter 1:16-21 attests to the validity of the Bible. It's not a chore for me to be reading this book. It is a story for me to fall in love with. If I can read novels and other books happily, why shouldn't I read the Bible in the same way?

Using that outlook has totally changed how I desire to read the Bible. Here God has given me a book that allows me to learn about Him and grow closer to Him. How can I not read this book that has an amazing story to fall in love with?

If you've never read the Bible completely through, I encourage you to reevaluate how you look at it. Do you see it as a duty to read your Bible? Or do you see it as a great story with a bonus of growing closer to God? It's easier than you think to read the Bible.

  1. That is a great way to look at it, and one reason why my next goal is to read the Bible chronologically.
Way to go, girl! So proud of you!
