So the title says Day 2 even though there is no post for Day 1. That's because I was a bit crazy yesterday. You see we're cutting costs around here and I'm doing my part to help the family finances. I quit smoking Wednesday night. I had my last one before I went to bed and haven't had one since.
The first day is the hardest. I should know, it's my 5th time quitting. I do consider each time to be successful as each time I quit was for 1 year or more. I tend to start back up when some extremely stressful event happens to me. I started when I was 16 and quit 2 weeks before I found out I was pregnant with my son at 21. I started again when my husband, son and I moved in with my parents for an extended time. I quit when I found out I was pregnant with our daughter. I started again when my husband left for training before he went to Iraq. Shortly before he came home from Iraq I quit again. A year later I started working nights & weekends at WalMart while still staying with the kids all day, and started again. I quit after I stopped working there.
In January of last year my husband left for training in Kentucky. In fact, he was gone for the majority of the year, leaving me at home with both kids and with a temporary job. I started smoking just 2 weeks after he left. I hid it for a while, in fact I didn't even tell him until I went to visit him in February last year. Only some people around me know that I was smoking now. Although, I don't know how everyone didn't know because I fully know how bad smoke smells!
Fast forward 1 year later. Money is tight and I decided to help out. Not quite the way my hubby wants me to help, but it is at least something. Day 1 was hard, I even survived a trip to Chuck E. Cheese with a bunch of 4 year-olds! But my hubby was great, he made a trip to the convenience store so I wouldn't have to stop (and buy some cigs along with the milk) and he watched the kids in the evening so I could go to practice without them. I came home, made it an early night and was in bed by 10. Yes, that is early for me.
So here I am on day 2. I feel great. I didn't get much of anything that I wanted to do today finished, but I don't care because I didn't smoke. I can catch up on the laundry tomorrow. I did however play tea party with my daughter, helped my son with his school work, and didn't take anyone's head off. It was a great day!

Front Room Renovation
It's been a while since I've posted about the renovation of our front room. I'm happy to report that the walls have finally been insulated. That means all the walls came out, the electric was updated, the walls were re-studded where necessary and lots of fun lights and speakers are going in. Here are some pics of my the great job my hubby is doing.
This next picture shows the framework for the new fireplace that we decided to put in. It's electric, but we're still excited about it. It is also going to be flanked by built-in bookshelves.
This last picture shows our old and new doorways to the kitchen. Overall, with seeing the insulation up we're excited because it means we will have the drywall up by the end of this month!

Resolution Recap
I made the resolution to start eating right this week and so far so good. I've eaten 3 meals a day and snacked lightly if at all. And when I mean snacked lightly, I mean for the whole day yesterday I only had 1 small bowl of baked chips. For me, that's really good considering I'm a junk food junkie.
I will eat anything, well, almost anything. I shouldn't have coconut because I'm allergic to it, but really it just means I eat it with a benadryl when I really want it. I know I'm nuts, you don't need to remind me.
Overall I feel good about what I have eaten. I still feel icky from being sick, but that's just this terrible cold that I have. Thankfully I am almost over this cold which is good because I need to do a cooking day soon and can't cough all over the food. I haven't decided what meals will be made in the next cooking day, but when I have them picked I'll post them here.

Back from Vacation
After a very fun vacation to California to visit my parents, I am back in Pennsylvania. Almost immediately I came down with a bad cold that has now settled into my chest. Yuck. Maybe I need to go back to California? umm.. no..
Getting back into the swing of things has been a bit rough on us. The kids are getting back on the right time zone, I'm doing tons of laundry again, and my hubby is working at his new job and still working on our front room. I must say, he is doing a great job.
The insulation has gone up and the new wiring is 98% complete. He just has to move the new drywall pieces to finish up the last 2 wires. He thinks by next weekend he might be able to start drywalling and he's pretty sure he can get it all up in a day since it's not that big of a room. Plus his cousin said he would come help which means I don't have to help!
So with returning home we have started a new year and that means resolutions. I didn't make any. I'm sitting here now eating breakfast at 2:12 pm and thinking that I might want to make a resolution about my eating habits. So here it goes. Starting tomorrow (because today is already shot) I resolve to eat on a normal schedule. I also resolve to stop eating so much junk food and choose to eat healthier foods. There we go, that's my resolution for 2009. I think it's a good one. Did anyone else make resolutions this year? I hope you all had a great holiday season.
